How keeping an attorney on retainer post-divorce can save you time and stress

A new way to retain us post-divorce—because your needs don’t end when the case is over, and neither should your legal support. Designed for both our current and former clients and individuals who finalized their divorce elsewhere, Continuing Client Care provides ongoing legal guidance, practical support, and peace of mind long after the Divorce Judgment is entered.
Why would you want to keep an attorney on retainer post-divorce? Fair question!
Enforcement issues.
Divorce decrees aren’t always self-executing. If an ex-spouse stops paying child support or alimony, refuses to transfer property as ordered, or violates custody terms, having an attorney already familiar with the case saves time and money versus starting from scratch with someone new.
Modification needs.
Circumstances change as time goes by — a job loss, relocation, remarriage, a child’s changing needs — can trigger the need to modify custody, support, or the parenting time schedule. An attorney who already knows the details of the case can provide ongoing guidance and recommend if it’s time to file in court.
Ongoing co-parenting disputes.
When there are children involved, disagreements over schooling, medical decisions, travel, or holiday schedules can crop up for years. Quick access to legal advice can head off bigger conflicts.
QDRO and asset transfer follow-through.
Retirement account divisions (QDROs), refinancing the marital home, or retitling other assets sometimes drag on past the divorce judgment and need legal follow-up to actually close out.
